Almost Back Home!

Tuesday 8/28 Timberline Campground, Waukee, IA

Back on the road again after 3-1/2 weeks in Illinois. We spent the first ten days with Joan in Tinley Park, then back to Sycamore. Did our annual doctor appointments in St Charles and Geneva. Then we spent a fair amount of time in Geneva helping Patt and John with preparations for the Geneva Concours on 8/26. Weather for the show was not very cooperative, although we did avoid rain. It was very hot and humid on Sunday, which may have kept the crowds down a bit. The show itself went off without a hitch, only a couple of the exhibitors failed to appear and it was a great show.

Got on the road about 8:45 this morning and ran into very heavy rain right at the I-88 / I-80 junction, but it did not last long. In and out of light rain the rest of the way to Waukee, got there a little after two, after a fuel stop at the Flying J in Altoona, IA.

Stopped for lunch at Amana Colonies. There was a small complex right at the exit with a Maid-Rite which used to be quite busy, but everything was closed up! The Maid-Rite is out of business as is one of the other two restaurants. The remaining one was closed today for “water maintenance”, whatever that is! So Nancy scraped up a light lunch in the trailer which worked out fine and was fairly quick.

After setting up at Timberline we made a stop at the Hy-Vee in Waukee for groceries, then home for dinner.

Wednesday 8/29 Sunny Meadows, Elm Creek, NE

Off and on rain most of the day. Sunny Meadows more crowded than we have ever seen it, maybe due to the state fair north of here.

Thursday 8/30 Cherry Creek State Park, Denver, CO

Very foggy in the AM so we were an hour late getting going. Left a little after 10 and took surface highways almost all the way to Denver. Easy drive with light traffic.

Friday 8/31 - Wednesday 9/12 Cherry Creek State Park, Denver, CO

Nice two weeks visiting family in Denver. Our great nephews and niece are growing up fast, they are fun to be with. Miles is 7 and the twins, Hillary and Oliver will be 5 the end of this month. We spent a lot of time at Nancy’s sister Connie’s house just relaxing and enjoying ourselves, enjoy good company and good food.

Heading for Tucson on Thursday morning with two overnight stops, one just 200 miles down the road at Trinidad Lake State Park. We always make this short jaunt because we wait until around 10 AM to get on the road to avoid morning traffic around the south side of Denver and through Colorado Springs.

Friday we plan on 340 miles to Bosque Birdwatchers RV Park in San Antonio, NM. A new stop for us, but it will put us only 364 miles from Tucson on Saturday the 15th. Gets us in a day earlier than we had planned. Still looks hot in Tucson, but our OLLI classes start on Monday the 17th and we have a Reading Seed Welcome Back Seminar on Friday.
